The scene: Simply ask the hotel staff to point you in the right direction once inside the revolving doors. So long as you’re dressed smart-casual, you’ll do – it’s not all suits and gowns.
The bar oozes opulence, with elegant sculpted timber chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and shades of mulberry and lilac running throughout.
Sit on a stool at the impressive marble bar, described as ‘Chinese Chippendale’ in design, and chat to the friendly mixologists, or relax on one of the embossed leather sofas where you’ll be waited on.
The grub: Nibble on the never-ending supply of crisps and nuts when you order a drink. Or stop being stingy and fork out for quirky snacks including caviar, dim sum and lobster gratin, or stick to chunky chips and samosas.
Behind the bar: As you’d expect, the cocktail menu is extensive, with the usuals as well as bespoke mixes.
If you’re still unsure, tell the bar staff and they’ll create a concoction for you. There are also top-class spirits, wines and beers on offer.
Bill please: Food from £3.50; cocktails from £14; beers from £7; wine from £7.25.
Verdict: Remember where you are, this place isn’t cheap. But for a special occasion, it offers a touch of class in stunning surroundings.
