London is the easiest city to get around, according to a survey of travellers compiled by the travel advice firm, TripAdvisor.

The city was also voted the most exciting place to visit, but such titles come at a price: London was voted the most expensive city.

"It's encouraging for everyone involved in London's tourism industry that, despite the concerns around cost, the city is regarded by European travellers as a vibrant and accessible destination,” said TripAdvisor spokeswoman Emma O'Boyle.

With the 2012 Olympics just over a year away, these titles are a good sign for the host city.

“Undoubtedly the buzz around next year's Olympics has contributed to London being crowned Europe's most exciting city, and we fully expect this momentum to continue into 2012 and beyond,” O’Boyle added.

Despite traffic and massive Tube upgrades, "London has become a lot better to navigate around in the last few years as signage has improved things immensely,” said London TravelWatch spokeswoman Jo deBank.

A Transport for London spokesperson said that the “staff work around the clock to provide Londoners and visitors with the quick, easy and reliable network they expect from a world-leading city.”

Last year alone, London’s bus services carried a record breaking 2.3 billion passengers.

According to travellers in the poll, Paris is the most overrated European city with the rudest locals.

Stockholm was voted the safest, and Venice the most romantic. Voters also recognized Rome as the friendliest, Athens as the dirtiest and Lisbon as the most underrated.

The results were based on responses from 3,523 European travellers, including 778 Britons.
