New manager Daniel Luc, who is reopening the Wardour Street restaurant next month, is hoping that service will a snarl will become a thing of the past. Speaking to the Evening Standard, he revealed that the restaurant had smartened up its reputation in recent years.

“Maybe there was an issue with rude staff 20 to 30 years ago, but I don’t think so any more,” he said. “I don’t know whether that’s a good thing or not.”

Sad Londoners have taken to Twitter to express their feelings at the restaurants squeaky-clean makeover.

‘So gutted about Wong Kei eliminating rudeness. The end of a true London Chinatown institution,’ said ‏@jamey_leigh.

‘Wong Kei’s was a rite of passage for me and my friends. The infamously-brusque service was part of the attraction,’ sighed @grimbletweets.
