In Greece, marches are already getting underway in Athens this morning.Protesters are moving to Syntagma Square where they are expected to demonstrate outside the parliament building, and strikes are taking place across the country.

Rallies are planned in Spain, where anger at the ongoing recession and high unemployment rates is likely to be expressed in street protests.

Italy’s new prime minister, Enrico Letta, today continues his European tour, visiting Brussels and Paris to discuss the financial crisis. Letta has criticised Europe’s focus on austerity and deficit reduction.
