James Packer’s ditching of media assets and focus on casinos has seen his bank balance swell as his net worth increased by $1.45 billion to $5.79 billion (£3.8 billion).
Packer, the youngest on the Forbes list at 45, was said to have “come into his own” in 2012.
Coal mogul and Newcastle sports team owner Nathan Tinkler has dropped down the list after a rough year that saw the price of coal plummet and his fortune drop to $801.27 million (£527.2m). Creditors now claim he owes them about $700 million (£460.5m).
