The ‘Night Stalker’ has been found guilty of rape and other sexual crimes, on the third day of his trial. Former London minicab driver Delroy Grant was found guilty on 29 counts by jurors in a case they said “keeps us all awake at night.”
Night Stalker Grant carried out a 17-year campaign of violent sexual attacks on the elderly between 1992 and 2009. One of his victims was an 89-year-old woman.
It has now been revealed that Grant’s true number of victims is at least 203, including 20 sexual assaults and four rapes.
Several of his victims were blind, deaf or had conditions including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Grant subjected his victims to carefully-planned assaults after breaking into their homes. Prosecuting QC Jonathan Laidlaw said the attacks were the stuff of nightmares.
The Night Stalker’s crimes have been described by Scotland Yard detectives as some of the worst they have ever seen.
Jehovah’s Witness Grant avoided capture for years despite a nationwide hunt to catch the Night Stalker rapist, as he became known.
After his initial arrest in 2009, Grant tried to frame his own son then said his ex-wife Janet Watson had set him up.
Night Stalker Grant has denied all charges, telling jurors: “For what reason would I want to rape old women?”
Police have apologised for missed chances to stop Grant earlier.
