The scene: Tucked away on a side road off well-trampled Upper Street, this boutique bolthole is decked out like a sumptuous boudoir with wax dripping candelabras, chic artwork and soft lighting.

The grub: There’s an impressive dinner menu with a choice of lamb, duck or sea trout. It is also the place to go for Sunday brunch (pancakes for £5) or Sunday roast (£13.50). There’s even a selection of Sunday beverages, including Buck’s Fizz or rejuvenative tea if you’re feeling delicate.

Behind the bar: Cocktails are the star attraction here, lovingly mixed and sporting some gloriously surreal names: think ‘Disco Bloodbath’ and ‘The Carbon Footprint’.

Bill please: Cocktails are £7.95 each.

Verdict: Perfect for a drink date, this sophisticated joint is ideal for anyone passionate about cocktails.
