Maximo Park (Warp)
Occasionally, Quicken The Heart does what it says on the tin: the arpeggiated organ and crashing drums introducing Tanned, for instance, or the jumpy dynamics of Roller Disco Dreams. For most of its 37-odd minutes, though, the record adds little to a catalogue that had already started to fade by the group’s second album. The juddering guitars promise more than they deliver, but the real problem is the absence of striking songs.
