The Eastern Cape’s Chevrolet Warriors bulldozed the Gestetner Diamond Eagles on Friday knocking them all out for a phenomenal 28 runs in their first innings.
The superb bowling figures of Makhaya Ntini and Lonwabo Tsotsobe have secured this legendary score. It is the record ‘franchise lowest’ first class score since 1959 when Border thrashed Natal in East London.
Ntini impressively took five wickets for nine runs while Tsotsobe managed four wickets for three runs. Kreusch also wowed the crowd with a direct throw.
“We are obviously very proud of what was clearly a top class bowling performance and unreservedly recognise the efforts of the team and in particular the two bowlers Tsotsobe and Ntini. At the same time we are quick to acknowledge that the game of cricket is known for its unpredictability and in times like this one needs to spare a thought for the opposition because just as quickly the boot can be on the other foot. Well done to the Chevrolet Warriors – a top class performance and let’s keep going for the rest of what will be a long and demanding season” said Dave Emslie, the CEO Cricket Eastern Cape.
