The man who became the first millionaire on new game show Red and Black could lose his prize money after his criminal record came to light.

ITV bosses launched an investigation after court documents reportedly revealed that Nathan Hageman was convicted for an attack on a woman.

On winning the new show Hageman ‘fessed up to a criminal past claiming he had been imprisoned for assaulting a male love rival.

However, Reading Crown Court revealed yesterday that on November 7, 2006 Hageman pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated burglary and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one month later received a sentence of five years imprisonment.

The victim of the assault occasioning actual bodily harm was Amy Edwards, believed to have been Hageman’s girfriend at the time.

A source close to ITV told the Daily Mail: “It’s fair to say we didn’t know. We knew about the sentence but believed it was the result of a confrontation with another man.”
