He was treated at one of Virgin Money’s medical facilities and then rushed to St Mary’s Hospital, but was pronounced dead after arriving.

Mr Berry was raising money for the National Osteoporosis Society, and since his death, his original target of £1,700 had been surpassed, as £19,000 had been donated in his memory.

The London Marathon is a 26-mile route that was run by 36,000 people last Saturday.

Two years ago, Claire Squires, 30, died from cardiac failure on the final stretch of the course.
