Prince William and Kate Middleton are said to be close to picking a wedding venue, with Westminster Abbey believed to be the favourite place to stage the event.

Miss Middleton, 28, was pictured leaving Westminster Abbey this week after a private tour.

The couple are thought to favour March for the exchange of vows but could pick July for the ceremony when the weather is more pleasant.

The Prince and his bride-to-be are trying to fit their plans around William’s job as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot.

Decisions will be made by phone as William is currently flying in North Wales, while Miss Middleton is staying with her family in Berkshire.

David Cameron has indicated that there should be an extra bank holiday to enable the country to celebrate the wedding, an idea which the couple support.

A St James’s Palace spokesman said: “Prince William and Catherine Middleton are grateful for the Prime Minister’s comments. They also support the idea of a bank holiday but recognise this is very much a matter for the Government.”
