Simon Cowell has hailed YouTube star Rebecca Black’s much-hated song Friday as “genuis”.
The 51-year-old praised the 13-year-old’s in Entertainment Weekly.
He said: “I love it! I’ve never seen anything cause so much controversy.”
“I think it’s genius. The fact that everyone’s getting upset about it is hysterical.”
The teen’s video for her debut single has been watched more than 26 million times, but Rebecca has been slammed for her Auto-Tuned vocals and the track’s simple lyrics.
Many music fans on Twitter have said it’s one of the worst songs they’ve ever heard.
But Cowell likes the controversy surrounding the tune and said he would love to meet Rebecca.
‘I want to meet her. Anyone who can create this much controversy within a week, I want to meet. I love people like that.’

He added: “It’s what we call a “hair-dryer song”, a song girls sing into their hair dryers as they’re getting ready to go out,” he added.
“But the fact that it’s making people so angry is brilliant.”
