The last couple of weeks have seen lots of fresh snow across Switzerland, although as is always the case in March, you needed to ski the resorts as soon as skies cleared to get the best of the off-piste. Now rising temperatures mean that south-facing slopes will be getting crusty. You’ll need to hire a guide now to find the good stuff.
The good news is that more snow is expected on Thursday, with the Jungfrau set to get the best of it. However, it doesn’t look as though Switzerland will be able to match Austria this week for fresh snow.
In Verbier the last fresh snow fell on Wednesday, March 11. Currently snow depths vary between 70 and 225cm, down slightly on last Thursday’s figures, because it’s been a warmish weekend. The sun’s out today, and temperature will rise to +2C.
Further east, Saas Fee last had snow on March 11, too. Snow depths vary between 147 and 360cm, and the slopes are a bit icy in places, thanks to the rising temperatures at the weekend.
Meanwhile, in Laax, settled snow depths are currently 120cm in town and 300cm on the glacier. It’s going to get steadily warmer this week until Thursday, when the temperature will drop back sharply, and more snow is expected.
