Ella Birchenough acted on impulse after dropping her phone down the drain, and soon became stuck fast.
Family friend Tim Richards was driving home from work when he spotted Ella in the drain.
“It’s not the type of thing you see every day,” he admitted. “It was pretty weird. She was more concerned about getting her phone back rather than getting herself out of the drain.”
Ella’s mum was initially concerned that some harm would befall her daughter, but when she saw Ella struggling to free herself, she saw the funny side.
Unfortunately for Ella, passers by still had their phones, and her pictures of her jammed in the drain soon spread.
After she was freed by firefighters, Ella headed home for a hot bath.
She was totally unharmed, but the same cannot be said for her phone, which was never seen again.
