The scene: A bistro-style restaurant simply decorated in wooden tables and chairs with contemporary art on the walls. Expect a Saturday night to be busy with tables of friends, from thirty-something couples to trendy East Enders.

The grub: The menu is largely European in flavours, but the starter of aubergine pakora with cheese fritters was delicious. And the sea bass with calamari, tomato and red pepper dressing was cooked to perfection. We loved the complimentary extras of amuse-bouche to begin and the selection of sweet treats that came with our bill.

Behind the bar: Choose from an extensive wine list.

Bill please: Not cheap – over £20 for a bottle of wine, about £15 for a main course, plus a 12.5 per cent service charge.

Verdict: If you’re prepared to splurge, then do it here. The food was faultless, as was the service.
