For lovers of baked goods
If smoking isn’t really your thing, but space cakes are, upon landing head directly to Bas Joe. This welcoming spot located right on the canal serves great coffee and even better rainbow coloured space cakes. The kindly owners even label the cakes with how much weed they contain to ensure no one puts themselves at risk of losing the ability to walk. You can grab a table outside and watch the world go by, or focus your sights on the wide screen TV when conversation starts to dwindle.

For the hip-hop wannabe
If you want to be able to brag to your mates that you got high with Snoop Dogg and Cypress Hill, head to The Greenhouse, where it is technically true. The walls of The Greenhouse are adorned with framed pictures of some of its most famous guests. Aside from Wu Tang Clan, Eminem and 50 Cent, this cosy coffee shop has welcomed Woody Harrelson, Britney, Rihanna and – more unexpectedly – Bill Clinton.

Siberie, located in a picturesque spot on Brouwersgracht, is perfect for those who like their joints served with a side of good reggae and equally good company. For bong lovers
If the word “volcano vaporiser” fills you with nervous excitement, you should be sure to swing by Grey Area in the Jordaan part of town. Although tiny, the American owners have covered every surface of their pride and joy with colourful stickers and chintz. CDs are piled high on the counter, there is always a movie playing and there are just 17 chairs in the whole place so it won’t be long before you’re making friends. In homage to their American roots, the owners also offer free organic coffee refills. The impressive bong collection is lined up behind the bar…do your worst.
