It’s time to get down and geeky with the cosplayers, illustrators, anisong artists (that’s the musicians behind Japanese animation soundtracks) and, of course, the gazillions of fans at this three-day celebration of all things anime.
So don your best neon wig, slap on all the make-up you’ve got (that’s boys and girls, naturally) and book a ticket.
Why: More than 85,000 anime fanatics are expected to attend the festival, where there will be a massive ‘I Love Anisong’ concert, endless karaoke sessions and, of course, stalls selling all the figurines, costumes and DVDs you could want.
The Regional Cosplay Championships will be a highlight.
Do it because: Even if you don’t quite ‘get’ the whole world of anime – and it is quite an out-there craze – just seeing
the amazing costumes fans will show up wearing in homage to their favourite characters will make it worth a visit.
