This enormous street party is a celebration of the city‘s ethnic diversity, so you can expect a riot of Brazilian drumming, Latin samba dancing, Korean street snacks, Congolese singers and other entertainment from around the globe.
Why: This carnival dates back to 1995, when the post-Berlin Wall city was struggling economically, and social divisions were very apparent. In other words, the Berliners were in sore need of a festival, to cheer everyone up and celebrate the spirit of togetherness. It’s been going strong ever since.
Do it because: The parade is a real highlight – more than 4500 dancers samba their way through the melting pot neighbourhood of Kreuzberg on the Sunday. Expect stilt-walkers, wacky costumes and all sorts of impromptu street performances.
