Tuvalu is a collection of tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean, between Australia and Hawaii, made up of four Tuvalu reef islands and five attolls.

The Tuvalu islands – formerly known as the Ellice Islands –  are the stuff of Athena posters, with their white sandy beaches, leaning palms and crystal clear water.

In the past, life has been based on subsistence agriculture and fishing, but an increasing population is changing traditions.

Much of Tuvalu has been affected by drought and Greenpeace media adviser Josephine Prasad said climate change was a heartbreaking, urgent reality for the country.

“There could not be a more pressing example as to why governments should cut their greenhouse gas emissions quickly,” Prasad said.
