Ayobaness! The Sound
Of South African House
(Out Here Records) – TNT album review
“Ayoba” is township slang for expressing excitement, so it’s the perfect titular banner for this LP, basically
a 13-song celebration of the breadth and depth of South Africa’s diverse house scene.
So you have Sebokeng’s Mgo mixing beats with kwaito on the joyfully bouncy Yes alongside Jo’burg-based Aero Manyelo’s inspired brew of kasi (township) drums and warped electro on Mexican Girl.
A potent blend from the melting pot.
