After months of speculation and rumours that have rolled on all summer, it has finally been confirmed – Gareth Bale is now a Real Madrid player in a world record breaking transfer move.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man had been angling for a move to Spain but his former employers had been dragging their heels, but the move that has surprised no one has finally been confirmed with the £85m price tag beating the £80m the Spanish giants paid for Christiano Ronaldo in 2009.
“I’ve had six very happy years at Tottenham but it’s the right time to say goodbye,” Bale said of the move.
“We’ve had some very special times together and I’ve loved every minute of it.
“I am not sure there is ever a good time to leave a club where I felt settled and was playing the best football of my career to date.
“I know many players talk of their desire to join the club of their boyhood dreams but I can honestly say this is my dream come true.”
Bale joined the north London side from south coast club Southampton in 2010.
