Seven-time Wimbledon champion Federer suffered his earliest exit from the All England Club slam since 2002 by losing in four sets 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 7-6 (7-5) in the second round to Sergiy Stahhovsky – ranked 116 in the world.
“You don’t panic at this point, that’s clear,” Federer said of his defeat adding that he still has plans for many more years of tennis yet.
A number of other high profile casualties have been seen this year, too, with Rafa Nadal crashing out in the first round, and another seven players retiring through injury yesterday as well, including Marin Cilic, Nadal’s conqueror Steve Darcis and Jo-Wilfred Tsonga.
The pressure is now all on Murray in what is shaping up to be a remarkable year at the SW19 slam tournament. His route to the final now features only world number 15 xxx.
