Wearing socks and sandals together is an epic fashion crime – but now it’s been discovered that it goes back 2000 years to the time of the Romans.

Archaeologists checking out some Roman ruins in North Yorkshire found that the Romans – who invaded Britain in AD43 – wore socks with their sandals, The Sun reported.

It is apparently the oldest evidence ever found of the existence of socks.

“They may have shaped the world as we know it, but
this just goes to show the Romans didn’t have much style,” one of the researchers told The Sun.

“Unfortunately they have inspired generations of embarrassing dads.”
