The 18-year-old survived a double eviction on Sunday’s results show. He appeared bleary-eyed on the programme, having been photographed in Funky Buddha nightclub in Mayfair the night before. After leaving the club, he was snapped heading home with a group of girls, where he partied until 7am.
Presenter Dermot O’ Leary told viewers that Cocozza had only managed half an hour’s sleep after his bender.
In addition, a clip that aired on Saturday’s show featured Cocozza spending his time out from rehearsals partying in London nightclubs. It prompted 28 complaints that the show had glamourised the misuse of alcohol.
There were also 102 complaints when, on the results show that aired October 23, Cocozza said: “F***ing have it, get in there” upon surviving the public vote.
The contestant’s swearing was aired before the 9pm watershed.
It’s not the first time the X Factor has landed in hot water with Ofcom. Last year, racy performances by US superstars Rihanna and Christina Aguilera attracted 4500 complaints.
The volume of complaints prompted Ofcom to issue new guidelines around family viewing programmes.
