TV’s Paul O’Grady’s real life ‘Love of Dogs’ has been reflected by the British public in a new poll naming his dog Olga as their favourite celebrity dog for 2016.

Olga has beaten EastEnders’ Lady Di and Simon Cowell’s Squiddly and Diddly into second and third places respectively so easily takes the other coveted title of ‘Top telly dog’ too.

The least well known dog in the survey by holidaycottages.co.uk was Mollie King’s Poodle, Alfie.  Mollie is the popstar from ‘The Saturday’s but clearly Alfie has been keeping a lower profile as he gained less than one per cent of the overall national vote. The Presidential pooches Bo and Sunny (Portuguese water dogs) came in eighth place with just two per cent of the vote nationally while Lupo – Prince George’s cocker spaniel - was sixth.

Regionally, dog lovers in the West Midlands voted EastEnders’ Princess Di as their favourite pooch with 10% of them voting for her. Simon Cowell’s pets were least popular in Scotland where Squiddly and Diddly barely registered any votes. The Beckhams’ lingering popularity from their days living in the north eest helped their dogs Coco and Olive become the best known pooches there with 5% of the vote plus another 5% in London.

The American population in London may have helped the Obamas’ pooches come in third in London behind Royal Lupo and again, Paul O’Grady’s dog took first place in the capital.
