Four decades later, it’s getting a commercial release.
The recording is low-fi by today’s standards, but the performances transcend the tape’s limitations: Phil Ochs, the forgotten man of US protest song; James Taylor, smooth and intense at once; and, indelibly, Joni Mitchell, premiering songs from Blue nine months before their release.
