The bustling Aussie paceman notched England dangerman Tim Bresnan with the first ball of the day, the Yorkshireman edging a beautiful ball to Haddin.
And Harris claimed the wicket of nightwatchman Jimmy Anderson not long after, sending a regulation edge through to Haddin.
It left Broad and Swann as England’s 10th wicket partnership. Both talented batsmen, they played with fantastic freedom, notching boundary after boundary, adding a quickfire 48 runs before Broad gave the thinnest of edges from a ball from James Pattinson.
England were all-out for 361, a score that will frustrate captain Alastair Cook after the top order failed to impose themselves on the well-marshalled Aussie attack.
Despite the Three Lions’ late flourish Australia will be happy with their performance on a pitch which by all accounts still looks in great condition.
Pundits have posited that a score of 400 would have been about par and now it is down to Australia’s top order to prove their mettle.
