A warrant was issued for Abberton’s arrest after he allegedly failed to turn up to court five times to make a plea on charges of assaulting a police officer causing actual bodily harm, a count of resisting police and one of behaving in an offensive manner, News Limited reports.
In his absence at Byron Bay Local Court, Abberton, of Maroubra, Sydney, was convicted on all charges and fined $533.
Police have confirmed a 39-year-old man was arrested at a home in Bowraville, on the north coast of New South Wales, and is in police custody, due to appear in Kempsey Local Court tomorrow morning.
Abberton went on a violent rampage in the police station on March 3, when he showed up following a domestic incident.
He is said to have ripped a phone out of the wall and tried to tear a CCTV monitor from its bracket.
Police tasered him, but could only subdue him with a neck restraint.
In 2005 Abberton was acquitted of the 2003 murder of stand-over man Anthony ‘Tony’ Hines, and in 2007 his life was the subject of documentary, Bra Boys: Blood is Thicker Than Water, narrated by Russell Crowe.
