Cheryl Cole was slammed for miming during her X Factor performance on Saturday but has hit back saying that most of the singing was live.
Wearing a seriously sack-your-stylist ensemble, including black tape wound around her legs, Cheryl took to the X Factor stage for a highly anticipated rendition of her new single, Promise This, which she had promised to sing “100% live.”
However once it became clear that Cheryl had mimed for much of Promise This, fans vented their rage on Twitter.
RodriigoAngulo wrote: “Another rubbish mimed performance from Cheryl Cole. There is NO excuse for miming on the show. How on earth is she a judge?”
celebrityfella posted: “Of course Cheryl Cole mimed. At least Pixie Lott actually sings – she refuses to mime… fact!”
However an X Factor source defended the performance saying: “Cheryl performed live for the majority of the song, but during some of the dance moves a backing track was used.”
A friend of Cheryl’s added: “The whole point was so she could dance during the chorus. It’s what a lot of artists do.”
Apparently, the incident almost led Cheryl to pull out of Saturday night’s Life Stories – watched by 7.8 million viewers. Host Piers Morgan revealed that it was a close call persuading her to appear and “end speculation”.
