A lot of people play the lottery their whole lives and never win, but a family from North Carolina have won the lottery for a third time in 20 years.

Kimberley McCauley won $100,000 on a scratch card called 10X The Money this month. This follows two previous New York Lotto wins on the state lottery by her mother – one in 2007, where she scooped an impressive $161,000 and another in 1991 that won her $15.5 million.

McCauley said: “I never thought I’d win anything. I figured my mom was hogging all the luck. This is so overwhelming, but it’s a good kind of overwhelming.”

McCauley, who went to claim the prize with her mother, said she was going to use the money to buy a car and pay off her student loans.

The family also won two $1,000 prizes playing the state lottery’s $130 Million Blockbuster game in 2009.

Ryan Kennemur, a spokesman from the North Carolina Education Lottery told ABC News: “Once you win the lottery twice, what’s a third time?”
