Orica-GreenEDGE’s Simon Gerrans continued his outstanding form to win a record third Tour Down Under.

It couldn’t have been scripted any better for the 33-year-old Victorian.

”To win as Australian champion with an Australian team on Australia Day in Australia’s only World Tour event, it is just a fantastic feeling,” he said after holding off former Tour De France winner Cadel Evans (BMC) by one point.

Italy’s Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) was third ahead of another Australian, Sky’s Richie Porte, in fourth.

Gerrans will now try to claim his third Tour of Victoria, which he won in 2005 and 2006.

”We will be there and we will be trying to win it,” said Gerrans. ”It’s another important race for Australia, so we will be going for another victory.”
