The Brazilian Tourist Board is putting together a planning application that would see a 9m-high model installed at the posh North London spot.
The idea behind the scheme is that it would mark the moment that Rio, host of the 2016 Olympics, takes on the task from London.
The Camden New Journal reported: “Primrose Hill Lib Dem councillor Chris Naylor said he wasn’t sure a 20ft statue of Christ with his arms outstretched was quite what the area needed.”
The Brazilian government would fund the project and want it to be situated “close to the pinnacle” of Primrose Hill.
This would apparently ensure that the replica was visible for miles.
Still, it would be significantly smaller than the original, which is 30m high.
It is reported that Brazil has hired London consultants to gauge the reaction of residents to the plans before submitting a proposal.
