The Welsh city is currently subject to a measles outbreak, with more than 800 confirmed cases since last November. A coroner is investigating whether the death of the young man is due to the disease, if it is confirmed it would be the first measles death in the UK since 2008.
“A diagnosis of measles has not yet been confirmed,” said the director for health protection for Public Health Wales, Marion Lyons to The Guardian.
“Testing the deceased for measles is forming part of the investigations being overseen by the coroner.”
Parents of children who have not had the MMR vaccination (measles, mumps and rubella) are being advised to to have their children immunised as soon as possible.
