Microsoft’s X-Box Kinect, the new motion-sensitive Xbox add-on is now on sale, and hundreds of UK gamers have already got their hands on one.
Stores opened at midnight last night as the much-hyped Kinect went on sale at £130.
Kinect plugs into the Xbox 360 and uses a motion sensor, camera and microphone so that users can play games without a controller, using their body movement and voice.
Microsoft is pitting Kinect against Nintendo’s Wii, which currently dominates the motion-controlled marketplace. In March, Sony pitched in to the battle, launching the Playstation Move.
Neil Thompson, Head of XBox UK told Sky News: “We are aiming to attract everyone who plays games whether they’re three or 83”.
Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect has hit the shelves in time for Christmas and may even sell out by the festive season.
“We are preparing ourselves for brisk demand for the Kinect, especially with Christmas present-buying now on most people’s minds. Availability is very limited and on a first-come, first-served basis, but we expect deliveries between now and Christmas,” said Harry Parmar, commercial director at Best Buy UK.
Kinect games coming up before Christmas include Dance Central, Kinectimals and Kinect Sports.
