More snow and freezing weather is expected across Britain this week with forecaster’s predict temperatures could plummet to as low -20 degrees in some parts of the country.
The Met Office warned of the possibility of heavy snow for London, the South East, South West England and eastern Scotland.
Warnings are already in place across most of Scotland, the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside, East Midlands and the East of England where snow storms and freezing winds have caused treacherous conditions on the road.
Hundreds of schools were forced to close across Scotland and north-east of England because of the freezing conditions.
Forecasters said that this was the earliest widespread snowfall for 17 years.
The cold snap saw both Wales and Northern Ireland recording the coldest November night since records began and is caused by high pressure over Greenland and low pressure in the Baltic region, pushing icy winds into Europe.
