Nelson Mandela is the latest celeb to become part of the Twitterati after his foundation convinced a British man to give up his @NelsonMandela account.
The account was originally registered by online consultant Richard Millington who has since agreed to hand it over to the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory, part of a foundation established by South Africa’s first black president.
“We are extremely pleased with Mr Millington’s response and we would like to encourage others who hold domains using Nelson Mandela’s name to hand them over to the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory. Please contact us on nmf@nelsonmandela.org should you be the administrator of such a page,” said Sello Hatang, spokesperson for the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.
The Foundation set up the account in Mandela’s name last week and immediately won 727 followers, who receive regular updates on the life of the anti-apartheid icon, and has also renamed its Facebook, Twitter and Flicker pages as Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.
