Chris Reynolds opened his monthly statement to find he had been credited a whopping $92,233,720,368,547,800 (around £60quadrillion) by the online payment firm PayPal. Quite a big error, and more than just putting the decimal point in the wrong place!

The US company though had been quick to spot its error though and by the time Mr Reynolds logged into his account – presumably to check the error before contacting PayPal rather than seeing exactly what quadrillions of pounds would get you in online shopping – the mistake had been rectified.

When asked what he would have done with the money, had he been allowed to keep it, Mr Reynolds told the Philadelphia News: “I’m a very responsible guy. I would pay the national debt down first. Then I would buy [Philadelphia baseball team] The Phillies.”
