Goals from Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud gave the FA Cup winners their first silverware of the new season in a game that saw new signings Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers make their debuts.

The win was enough to convince Ramsey that his side were on the edge of greatness.

“The atmosphere in the camp is great. We really want to work hard for each other and the club is on the up,” he told BT Sport. “Everyone is excited and the arrival of Alexis Sanchez has made everyone excited.

“After the FA Cup win I really feel this club is on the up and I hope we can go on to be very successful in the coming years.”

Premier League champions Manchester City’s cause was not helped by the fact they were missing Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Fernandinho, Sergio Aguero, Martin Demichelis, Frank Lampard, Bacary Sagna and Alvaro Negredo and they looked poor, especially first half. They begin the defence of their title away to Newcastle.
