The scene: It’s like a slice (no pun, honest) of Naples has been transported to W5. Adorned with icons of the Virgin Mary, Santa Maria has a family-run vibe, even though owners Angelo and Pasquale are not related.

The grub: The pizzeria promises traditional, wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas and doesn’t disappoint. We tried the Sant’Anna and Santa Bufalina: both had fresh, generous toppings and the thin crust bases were cooked to perfection.

Service: Run off their feet, poor things, but then they had recently been voted best pizza joint in London by Time Out. We also had to queue for about 25 minutes.

Bill please: Really good value: the most expensive pizza on the menu is £7.75.

Verdict: Well worth the schlep out west.
