There’s no doubt that this year, like every other, will be a riot of mud, face paint, daft hats and brilliant bands playing. And none other than Elton John and his band are going to be headlining.

Why: Running since 2004 and organised by DJ and producer Rob da Bank, the festival has become one of the UK’s most popular, bringing more than 50,000 fans to the normally sleepy island of cockles and winkles. Snoop Dog, Fatboy Slim, The Flaming Lips and Franz Ferdinand also appear.

Do it because: You’ll get to party inside Lionel Richie’s head! Thanks to a Kickstarter.com art project by Hungry Castle, the festival will feature a giant inflatable head of the soul singer, which you can climb inside and party in. Surreal fun.
