Western Australia police have now issued an apology to the woman, admitting that the officer who gave her the fine had “misinterpreted the law”.
The woman had been pushing the pram on a footpath at Mandurah near Perth when she was written up for being in control of the vehicle at the same time as chatting on her phone.
news.com.au reported that the fine was withdrawn 24 hours after it was given.
Inspector Bill Munnee said: “The officer concerned had misinterpreted the law involved regarding the definition of a vehicle.”
He added that as soon as the mistake was noticed, the officer contacted the woman to apologise.
