Scallan got a message on Facebook from a high school friend who’d seen a Hawaiian news report about a camera which had been found washed up on a beach in Taiwan by a China Airways employee.
Incredibly, the camera still worked, and the finder got in touch with Hawaiian officials to find its owner, and the story made its way to Hawaii News Now.
“It was social media at its best,” Scallan told CBS Atlanta.
Scallan was reunited with her pictures, which included “a lot of snorkeling, a lot of scuba diving and a night dive”, during which she initially lost the camera.
China Airways, loving the free publicity, have offered a free trip to Taiwan to meet the person who found her prized possession, and maybe get in some snorkelling while she’s there.
