The Sydney Swans, 2012’s premiers, finished on top of the ladder also on 68 points despite a last round loss to Richmond to win a place against last year’s losing grand finalists Fremantle in a 2.45pm Saturday bounce at ANZ Stadium.

The Dockers won their spot in the top four, and a second bite at the cherry should they fail against the Swans, with a nail-biting win over Port Adelaide on Saturday.

In the elimination finals, which as the name suggests will see the loser bow out for the year, Melbourne rivals North Melbourne and Essendon, who secured 7th with a  draw against Carlton, clash on Saturday night at the MCG.

The last match in the first weekend in September will feature Port Adelaide hosting Richmond on Sunday at the Adelaide Oval.

The Tigers are on a roll after winning the last place in the finals with a nine game winning streak.
