Clicking on the Charles Dickens doodle directs internet users to the Google Books search results page, which lists Dickens’ popular novels.

Dickens, considered the greatest Victorian era writer, wrote many novels in his lifetime – including classics like A Tale of Two Cities and Nicholas Nickleby – many of which focused on the hardships faced by the poor and working class during the industrial revolution.

Many of Dickens’ characters, such as Oliver Twist and David Copperfield, have weaved their way into Britain’s cultural heart.

Dickens was born in Landport, Hampshire in England on February 7, 1812.  From the age of 12, he worked in a blacking factory, attaching labels to bottles of polish, before pursuing a career as a journalist.

Decorative changes are made to Google Doodles to celebrate holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous people.

Google also has a dedicated website that features more than 1000 doodles, some of which include a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and links to the interactive versions.
