More royal wedding rumours! Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s engagement is hogging the headlines, but if you can’t quite look away then here’s a round-up of the latest royal wedding stories.
Royal wedding news No.1: “Ordinary’ people will be invited
Prince William and Kate Middleton have requested that ‘ordinary’ folk are invited to their wedding on April 29, 2011.
Apparently, the couple will be inviting terminally ill children, former drug addicts and wounded soldiers to the wedding along with members of the royal family, VIPs and aristocrats.
William and Kate have said that the 2,000 invitations should include people “from different walks of life, not just the great and good,’” reports the Daily Mail.
Royal wedding news No.2: The Middleton family won’t be left out
In the past, royal in-laws have complained that they’ve been given the cold shoulder by the royal family.
However, Prince William is close to Kate’s family and wants the Middleton’s to play an active role in the couple’s life.
“Prince William has always been close to the Middletons and that will remain the case,” a royal source told the Telegraph. “They will be as much a part of his family as the Royal family. There is no suggestion whatsoever that they will be airbrushed out of the picture.
“The Prince has made it absolutely clear that the Middleton family is incredibly important to him and he will do things his own way.”
Royal wedding news No.3: Kate Middleton’s see-through dress
The see-through dress that Kate Middleton was wearing in a student fashion show when Prince William first clapped eyes on her is now worth £100,000.
Middleton modelled the transparent gold dress, designed by fashion student Charlotte Todd, during a 2002 show at St Andrews University, where she and fiancée Prince William were both students.
Kate’s underwear was clearly visible and William id said to have remarked, “Kate’s hot!”
Designer Todd, who now works in an aquarium, had stored the dress in the back of a cupboard and is now refusing to sell it, despite estimates that it could be worth £100,000.
Royal wedding news No.4: Not everyone will get the day off
Don’t get too excited about the extra Bank Holiday for the royal wedding. Not everyone’s contracts of employment will entitle them to a paid day off despite what David Cameron said.
Carol Smith, senior employment consultant at Croner, told the Telegraph: “If the contract is more specifically drafted and it refers to each bank or public holiday by name, for example, Christmas Day, Good Friday and so on, the extra bank holiday will not be provided for in the contract. Therefore it will be up to the employer to make a decision about that day – whether to trade or not and whether the day off will be paid or unpaid.”
Royal wedding news No.5: YOU could get an invitation to the wedding!
Prince William and Kate Middleton will invite members of the public to their wedding next year by sending out 100 Willy Wonka-style golden tickets, according to The Sun.
“William and Kate wanted the British people involved at a deeper level than simply holding street parties,” a source told the paper. “They were crystal clear on this from the outset and were delighted when the idea of a random selection was mooted.
“Those lucky enough to land an invitation will only find out when it drops on their doormat.”
