The 23-year-old was on the highest part of the canyon in Watarrka National Park, the Ridge Walk, when she fell.
ABC journalist Jesse Dorsett revealed in a tweet that several witnesses had seen the woman pose for a photo.
Over the years a number of photos have been posted on social media sites of tourists standing precariously close to the edge at the site where the woman fell more than 100m to her death.
It has been reported that the woman was trying to lower herself to a ledge when she slipped.
She was travelling with The Rock Tour when she died.
